Letter: Don’t blame The Tribune

(Paul Fraughton | Tribune file photo) The Salt Lake Tribune office building at the Gateway mall.

I read, with some dismay, the petty complaints of one Holly Robison, an ostensible educator from Richfield, in her Sept. 14 letter to the editor. I have a slightly different take on the matter. Some 30 years ago, I was an adjunct to law enforcement and got quite a different view of things. Among other things, I observed virtual ubiquitous lying under oath by officers (and have observed it in other contexts since then), the assault of an injured teenager, and the occasional good deed (in fairness). In time, this indeed became an issue involving emotions, admittedly.

It seems rather weak to me blaming The Tribune and Pat Bagley for Ms. Robison’s own inability to keep order in a classroom, and hiding one’s head in the sand has rarely ever solved a problem. Ask any ostrich.

We have a real problem with the culture of law enforcement. I do not personally have solutions, but they will never be arrived at by ignoring the problem. It will take the input of many to arrive at any solution, but insisting that everything is fine and dandy with policing borders on delusion.
