When does it stop? That is the question from Donovan Mitchell. I can no longer turn away from my responsibility. Maybe I should say we can no longer turn away.
How many more examples do we need before we learn there is a problem with some police officers? Not all, but some. Sadly, they have not been held accountable. All of these killings are hate crimes and should be treated as such. George Floyd was lynched by a knee. Trayvon, Tamir, Rodney, Michael, Amadou, Breonna, Taylor, Jacob Blake and more were all lynched by a gun. There is no difference. It is still a hate crime coming from bias against a human being.
I can’t imagine the fear of a Black or brown mom and dad, sending their children to school, not knowing if they will return. I can’t imagine a Black or brown grandparent kissing their grandchildren goodbye as they go to church and feeling fear in their hearts and guts, wondering if they will come home for Sunday dinner.
I hate the racist feeling in my country. We can no longer say this is not who we are, because it is. We’ve become more so, especially in the last four years. Shame on all of us who have turned our hearts and heads away.
