So, if most of us are clear on the science of COVID-19 (maybe 70% of us), the basics to “flatten the curve,” reduce hospitalizations and infection spread, are: Everyone wear a mask (no exceptions), social distance, groups less than 10 and hand washing.
Gov. Gary Herbert and his political allies have chosen a different path. They have stepped into the camp of the 30%. The 30% puts all of us at risk.
It is naive to actually think that merely asking people to do “responsible things” will get it done. Why is it so difficult to make simple changes in behavior for a short time? This isn’t a hardship and it isn’t about your constitutional rights.
I’m afraid that the consequences of not mandating masks will prove to be a mistake that we the 70% will have to face.
