We should heed time-worn idioms. In particular, I refer to “Don’t throw the baby out with the bathwater.”

The wave of “defund the police” is the most senseless of ideas, in my opinion, ever proposed. To allow that to happen would be tantamount to dumping a pallet of apples (several hundred pounds) into the garbage because one rotten apple comes to view.

Nothing is more horrible than police brutality and nothing more heartwarming than caring deeds performed by myriad stalwart police officers (most of which go unheralded).

Consider the infrequent renegade U.S. senator or representative. However, there has never been a hue and cry to defund those noble institutions.
