The airwaves are filled with news about Donald Trump’s announcement that he claims to be taking hydroxychloroquine. My response: Who cares?

First, as a compulsive liar, it’s impossible to believe anything he says is true. Second, he’s waving his magic wand again to distract the country from the devastation his incompetence has caused to the lives of millions of American people. And third, he has consistently adopted an “every man, and woman, for themselves” policy.

Trump and his supporters want their personal freedom. Let that apply to him and those who chose to follow him. If he wants to take an unproven drug with serious side effects, be my guest.

Compared to this fool, Pence might not be so bad after all.

sltrib.com is now free to access — no subscription required. We made this decision because we believe access to trustworthy, independent news shouldn’t depend on what you can afford — especially as misinformation and AI-generated content continue to rise.

Free to read doesn’t mean free to produce. Our reporters show up every day to ask hard questions and hold powerful institutions to account. That work takes resources.
