Letter: I’m not ready to die

(Rick Egan | The Salt Lake Tribune) Lindsay Leech and Lucy Unger run with their dogs Hank and Olive, on a hiking trail in Millcreek Canyon, Thursday, Oct. 31, 2019.

It’s been a long winter and I’m glad we can all begin to get outdoors to enjoy some safe recreation. Millcreek Canyon is my favorite place to hike, so recently I hiked a popular trail that is quite narrow, making it impossible to maintain the 6-foot rule.

Of the 30 or so people I passed, only two wore bandanas they could use to cover their mouths and noses when passing.

I'm a senior citizen but I'm not ready to die. I have a wonderful life that includes loved ones, a garden, dogs and hopes and dreams for the future.

Next time I'm out I might fill my pockets with nickels to reward the thoughtful ones. (Just don't spend it all in one place.)

sltrib.com is now free to access — no subscription required. We made this decision because we believe access to trustworthy, independent news shouldn’t depend on what you can afford — especially as misinformation and AI-generated content continue to rise.

Free to read doesn’t mean free to produce. Our reporters show up every day to ask hard questions and hold powerful institutions to account. That work takes resources.
