Letter: Theological irony in new LDS symbol

(Image courtesy of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints) New church symbol.

I enjoy the theological irony of using Lutheran iconography as the new symbol for The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints.

The Christus statue was created by Icelander Bertel Thorvaldsen and the original resides in the Evangelical Lutheran Church in Denmark. The biblical precedent is Martin Luther's teaching of sola gratia, salvation by grace and grace alone.
