Letter: Show some respect for journalism
(Francisco Kjolseth | The Salt Lake Tribune) The sun rises on the temple of the LDS Church on the first day of General Conference in Salt Lake City on Saturday, Oct. 5, 2019.
I subscribe to and read The Salt Lake Tribune daily. For three straight days, in the middle of possibly the greatest threat to public health in a century, there has been a front-page article about church issues. You have more important work to do.
Also, why am I paying you to promote the LDS Church? As you may have noticed, the LDS Church is rather good at promoting their institution and related businesses. Insofar as they don’t infringe on the common good, leave them to it.
Please be the secular paper I thought I was subscribing to. Thank you for Robert Gehrke, George Pyle and your other fine writers. Let them have the front page. I don't care what religion they are or aren't, as long as they continue with real journalism.
A free press is the backbone of democracy. Show some respect for your profession.

Free to read doesn’t mean free to produce. Our reporters show up every day to ask hard questions and hold powerful institutions to account. That work takes resources.
