It is important to continue supporting local businesses such as shops and restaurants that will be significantly affected by people isolating and avoiding public spaces.

In the Avenues, local restaurants will be particularly hard hit if everyone completely stops eating out.

Those of us at higher risk due to age or medical conditions who are recommended not to dine out can continue to support Cucina, Avenues Bistro on 3rd, Café on 1st, Sawadee, Café Shambala, Avenues Proper and others by ordering take out and buying gift cards for later redemption. If we all do this as often as we would have gone out to eat before the virus threat we might help enable our favorite eating spots to still be there when life returns to normal.

Remember to tip generously for servers who are on the front lines of the downturn.

Support free news for Utah

sltrib.com is now free to access — no subscription required. We made this decision because we believe access to trustworthy, independent news shouldn’t depend on what you can afford — especially as misinformation and AI-generated content continue to rise.

Free to read doesn’t mean free to produce. Our reporters show up every day to ask hard questions and hold powerful institutions to account. That work takes resources. As a nonprofit newsroom, we rely on support from people who believe it matters. Make a donation today to fund local news that serves Utah communities.
