Letter: Feed our children

(Trent Nelson | Tribune file photo) Students at Copperview Elementary in Midvale line up for breakfast at the start of class, March 3, 2015.

Our state senators want to deny children free breakfast at school. There are several reasons I can think of for objecting to their rationale.

Children cannot control their environment and how their parents spend money. School districts should not have to take money from their already underfunded budget and the federal government is going to reimburse the state. By doing it through the state it would guarantee all our children get to eat. Lastly, it is the right thing to do.

sltrib.com is now free to access — no subscription required. We made this decision because we believe access to trustworthy, independent news shouldn’t depend on what you can afford — especially as misinformation and AI-generated content continue to rise.

Free to read doesn’t mean free to produce. Our reporters show up every day to ask hard questions and hold powerful institutions to account. That work takes resources.
