Letter: Americans admire Utah and its senator

(J. Scott Applewhite | AP file photo) Sen. Mitt Romney, R-Utah, arrives as defense arguments by the Republicans resume in the impeachment trial of President Donald Trump on charges of abuse of power and obstruction of Congress, at the Capitol in Washington, Tuesday, Jan. 28, 2020.

Patriotic Americans in every state admire the people of Utah for electing Sen. Mitt Romney.

Knowing his vote would not affect the outcome and that he (as well as his family) would be viciously attacked by Trump and Trump’s cult, Romney demonstrated integrity.

All the world knows he lives his faith. Harder than talking Christianity is living as Christ taught when it is hard.

Whether or not everyone reading this would have the same opinion had President Obama done exactly as has trump, Romney has stood up, despite personal cost, to uphold the expectations of the founders, honor the Constitution and his oaths.

Vicious attacks on politicians voting their conscience has, until 2016, been virtually unknown in the United States. It is now the norm.

I hope Utahans — whether or not you support Trump — will appreciate the integrity, honor and faith Romney demonstrated and let him know you honor his living faith.

Virginia McCallum, Santa Fe, N.M.
