Letter: Biden should appear more presidential

(Steve Marcus | Las Vegas Sun via AP) Democratic presidential candidate and former Vice President Joe Biden speaks during town hall meeting at the Culinary Union, Local 226, headquarters in Las Vegas on Wednesday, Dec. 11, 2019.

To Joe Biden:

Your acerbic reaction to the “liar” who confronted you the other day about your son and Burisma was appropriate for Donald Trump, not the hapless individual to whom you responded. However, your contemptuous response likely will halt any like accusations from other cowardly Trump toadies.

If you get in a similar such incident, try a different tact. Ask the person if s/he has a son/daughter and how they would respond if a flurry of ”lies” was incessantly disseminated in the media about their loved one. You may not get an honest answer, but this approach might make you appear more presidential. Save your righteous vitriol for when you get in the trenches in 2020 with the ill-starred liar-and-flusher-in-chief.

sltrib.com is now free to access — no subscription required. We made this decision because we believe access to trustworthy, independent news shouldn’t depend on what you can afford — especially as misinformation and AI-generated content continue to rise.

Free to read doesn’t mean free to produce. Our reporters show up every day to ask hard questions and hold powerful institutions to account. That work takes resources.
