Letter: Could you turn a straight child gay?

(Francisco Kjolseth | The Salt Lake Tribune) Connell O'Donovan of Salt Lake who calls himself an ex-Mormon says he endured 10-years of conversion therapy in high school and college as he lends his experience and attends a press event at the Utah Capitol where legislation was being introduced to ban conversion therapy on Thursday, Feb. 21, 2019. .

So the LDS Church has formally announced its opposition to a ban on “conversion therapy” which would attempt to turn a gay child straight or alter a minor’s gender identity. Supporting the church’s position is the patron saint of religious zealotry, Gayle Ruzicka.

I would like church officials and Ruzicka to imagine the following scenario: Suppose you were suddenly thrust into a homosexual society and you were forced to attend conversion therapy in order to become gay. Imagine your children attending such sessions. (Studies have shown that 60% of children subjected to the current conversion therapy have attempted suicide.)

So ponder this awhile and try to convince yourself that turning a gay child straight is any easier than turning a straight child gay.
