Letter: Time to demand accountability, Sen. Romney

(Alex Brandon | AP) Sen. Mitt Romney, R-Utah, center, talks with reporters as he heads to the Senate for a vote, on Capitol Hill, Tuesday, Sept. 24, 2019 in Washington.

I would ask, for the sake of our country, and all that we hold dear, that you confront with honesty and directness the unconscionable behavior of this president. At this point in time, there is no need to parse words or build a case or wait for additional information or investigations. The president's own admissions and the transcript are clear and we must say, "Enough."

I can't tell you how disappointed I was to hear Senator Graham's statement this morning. A once honorable senator is losing his soul for a man who's character is undeserving. How will history look back on Senator Graham and other members of Congress that are motivated by a base and fleeting political calculus of self-preservation?

The country needs champions who are willing to rise above political concerns and party. I am hopeful that men and women of good character will do what they know is right and demand accountability. To turn a blind eye is to be complicit. To be a United States senator or representative who turns a blind eye is to abdicate the oath sworn to his or her countrymen and women. God bless America.
