Letter: Solitude, you rock

(Steve Griffin | The Salt Lake Tribune) Solitude Mountain Resort in Big Cottonwood Canyon near Salt Lake City Friday August 26, 2016.

For those of us trying to broach air quality challenges here in the Salt Lake Valley, we’re doing cartwheels down the hall at the news that Solitude Mountain Resort is starting parking fees of up to $20 this season.

If you ski or board and understand the importance of the air we breath, patronize Solitude this season. Hey, if you don’t understand the importance of the air we breath, now is a good time to educate yourself.

Just as you choose not to smoke in your 20s so that you can be healthy in your 50s, choosing now to reduce diesel and car emissions so that the diseases from breathing ultra-fine particulate matter and ozone won’t rob you of your health down the road. Taking this bold step to reduce traffic and emissions is one that will help Utahns build new habits when it comes to transportation.

Solitude, you rock! I’m doing cartwheels down the hall!
