Letter: We all see what needs to be done, except our politicians
(Leah Hogsten | Tribune file photo) Samantha Skipper, center, joined the rally to honor of her best friend, who lost her father and a 15-year-old family friend to gun violence. Members of Moms Demand Action for Gun Sense in America gathered at Washington Square Park to demand change in gun laws in reaction to the August mass shootings in Dayton, Ohio and El Paso, Texas, and the hundreds of Americans who are wounded and killed by gun violence every day.
The public’s angst, sorrow, outrage and anger about the ongoing mass shootings is palpable. Everywhere you look — newspapers, TV, social media, protests and conversations with friends and colleagues — the same comments and conclusions are made. Enough is enough. We need common-sense gun laws and gun control. Ban assault weapons. Do something!
As communities and as a nation, we all agree that action is required now, except for one lonely group of outliers who can only spew platitudes — our politicians.
