Letter: Money is not the same as character
(Andrew Harnik | AP Photo) President Donald Trump speaks during a Made in America showcase on the South Lawn of the White House in Washington, Monday, July 15, 2019.
The one great value of having Donald Trump as president is that he shows the American public that having a lot of money is no indication of intelligence, morality, character or leadership.
As a strongly capitalist country, we have been brainwashed to believe that money is the barometer of all things, and that those who have it are somehow special. Look at our obsession with celebrities. But then notice who they really are. They are no different than you or me.
As Ernest Hemingway once said to F. Scott Fitzgerald, "Yeah, Scott, the rich are different than us, they have more money.”
It's a thing that means nothing as to the quality of character.
