Letter: Utah Arts Festival tips are accounted for

(Francisco Kjolseth | Tribune file photo) The unique ballpoint pen works of artist Tai Taeoalii draws a crowd during the annual 2019 Utah Arts Festival as it kicks off at Library Square and Washington Square in downtown Salt Lake City, Thursday, June 20, 2019, with visual and performance art of all varieties and food for all ages from June 20-23.

I am responding to the letter to the editor in The Salt Lake Tribune regarding the policy around the tips taken at the Utah Arts Festival.

We have tip jars in various areas of the festival — beverage booths, face painting and hospitality patios. All tip jars are labeled “TIPS — All Tips Go To Support The Children's Art Yard.”

All money received is accounted for appropriately and reported to the IRS.

As the director of the festival for 13 years, I am exceedingly proud of our organization and its financial practices. The festival was tremendously successful this year, and I wholeheartedly thank our patrons for supporting us.

Lisa Sewell is the executive director of the Utah Arts Festival.
