Letter: More people see the need to act on climate change

Regarding the recent Governors’ Energy Conference, it appears that climate change has moved from debating the science, to debating what the best solutions are to address it.

The communications firm Luntz Global reported on May 20 that taking action to address climate change now has 4 to 1 support across party lines, 2 to 1 support from GOP voters and 75% support from Republicans under 40.

Axios, also recently published an article, “The big corporate shift on climate change” discussing an alliance of 75 major corporations, (including major oil companies), toward supporting a carbon fee and dividend solution to address climate change.

Apparently these companies recognize the economic impact on their businesses, and the shift in public opinion. And, they want to get out in front of the issue to help direct solutions.

It is about time. The science is overwhelming, the effects are happening now and the economic and health impact of doing nothing is catastrophic.

This should not be a political issue. It is a clear and present danger to our country and our world.

We already have the solutions — wind, solar, carbon fee and dividend that allows the free market to work — they just need to be put in place.
