Letter: How about ‘Chloroform in print’?

This undated photo shows author Samuel Clemens, who wrote under the pen name "Mark Twain." The Territorial Enterprise, the historic Nevada newspaper where Twain cut his journalistic teeth, is back in publication for the first time in three decades, and its owners plan to uphold tradition by offering more than just real news. We all know The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints is behind the times. With all this name changing, we know they have reached 1984.

So, to Robert Kirbys' question as to what to retitle the "Book of Mormon," may I suggest as Mark Twain referred to it: "Chloroform in print."

Support free news for Utah

sltrib.com is now free to access — no subscription required. We made this decision because we believe access to trustworthy, independent news shouldn’t depend on what you can afford — especially as misinformation and AI-generated content continue to rise.

Free to read doesn’t mean free to produce. Our reporters show up every day to ask hard questions and hold powerful institutions to account. That work takes resources.
