Letter: Romney and company aren’t interested in us

(Francisco Kjolseth | Tribune file photo) Sen. Mitt Romney meets state lawmakers at the Utah Capitol as he speaks with members of the Republican House Caucus during a series of meetings on Thursday, Feb. 21, 2019.

If anyone thinks for an instant that Mitt Romney became a United States senator because he is interested in public service and doing good for his fellow Utahns and Americans, think again. That’s not why he is there and, in fact, it is not the reason any elected official is in office, Republican or otherwise.

They are there to feather their own nests and those of their rich cronies. They are there to enjoy the perks and notoriety that go along with the alleged job. Romney will drop to his knees and grovel before Trump like every other Republican politician has done. He is weak, spineless and cowardly, just like every other Republican politician.

These people are not interested in changing or fixing anything. They realize that Trump is a golden opportunity for them to do as they damn well please because he is such a huge distraction. The Trump Presidential Reality Show has the media and the country mesmerized 24/7.

Unfortunately for us this means things will never change and will probably only get worse. Nothing of consequence will ever get done. There will be no progress. Only the daily circus we call America.

sltrib.com is now free to access — no subscription required. We made this decision because we believe access to trustworthy, independent news shouldn’t depend on what you can afford — especially as misinformation and AI-generated content continue to rise.

Free to read doesn’t mean free to produce. Our reporters show up every day to ask hard questions and hold powerful institutions to account. That work takes resources.
