Letter: Eliminating democracy in Utah

(Rick Egan | Tribune file photo) New Senate President Stuart Adams conducts business in the Utah State Senate on the first day of the 2019 legislative session at the Utah State Capitol, Monday, Jan. 28, 2019.

OK, now I’m beginning to understand.

The Utah Theocratic Republican Party is on a campaign to reduce democratic practices in Utah by:

  • Eliminating the impact of citizens’ initiatives, making them nothing but expensive public opinion polls.

  • Eliminating the public election of the State School Board members.

I suppose the next logical move would be constitutional changes for the creation of a State Legislative Election Review Board to review the results of all elections. Certain victors not meeting “standards” would be replaced by someone “more appropriate.”
