Letter: What kind of democracy are we running in Utah?
(Rick Egan | The Salt Lake Tribune) Keaton Hill talks to Dawn Le as they plan to canvas a neighborhood in Taylorsville with other supporters of the fuller Medicaid expansion, urging residents to call their senator, Saturday, Feb. 9, 2019.
The people of Utah voted to expand Medicaid through Prop 3 by a significant majority. Our legislators think they know best and have amended the implementation through Senate Bill 96, which covers 50,000 less citizens, and will cost Utah three times as much as Prop 3.
They say we cannot afford Prop 3, in spite of a $225 million surplus and a “booming” economy. Thousands of Utahns will suffer and die as a result of this callous disregard of the will of the people.
What kind of democracy are we running here in Utah? Where is the caring for the citizens that our Legislators represent? Those who voted for SB96 should be ashamed, and we, the people, need to remember this next election.
