Letter: What happened to compassion and common sense?
(Francisco Kjolseth | The Salt Lake Tribune) A truck adorned with digital billboards and paid for by Utah Decides circles the Capitol complex during the second week of the session, showing support messages for Prop 3 with “Respect Voters” and other pro-initiative statements on Tuesday, Feb. 5, 2019, as a new Medicaid revamp version of SB96 with “technical changes” recently passed the Senate and moves to the House for consideration.
Let's see, there are approximately 3.2 million people in Utah. That makes my share of the $200 million tax cut about $62 and, after paying state and federal taxes on it, it'll net me, um, maybe $50. I'd rather see it used to expand Medicaid.
Such a pity. Those who don't need the $50 will never know where they spent $50 and many of those who can use the money are probably the same ones who would benefit from Medicaid expansion. You know, like those who make a whopping $12,000 to $17,000 annually or who have lost their jobs and insurance due to medical issues, etc.
I just don't get it. What happened to compassion and common sense in our self-proclaimed Christian government leaders in Utah?
