Letter: Why have elections at all?

(Al Hartmann | The Salt Lake Tribune) "Tikva Pearl, a big supporter of the cause joins rally with owner Judi Hilman with Salt Lake Indivisible, Mormon Women for Ethical Government, and Action Utah members in a rally against the confusing process of special election to fill Chaffetz' 3rd District seat outside the historical courthouse in Provo Monday Aug 14.

If the Utah Legislature is actually considering “legislation to delay and effectively repeal Utah’s Medicaid expansion initiative,” why bother to have any elections in Utah?

If the Mormon-backed and controlled Utah government is going to do whatever it wants, why waste taxpayers money (and our time) on the voting process?
