The past few years, the governor has boasted of Utah's great economy, its low unemployment rate and overall growth. I wonder, if everything is so peachy in Utah, why are 20 percent of its children at risk of going hungry (Souper Bowl promotion on TV)? Why are more than 200,000 people on SNAP food assistance (The Tribune, Jan. 17)? Why are 66 percent of renters considered low-income? And why are almost 300,000 Utahns on Medicaid?
If our state is in such an economic boom, why are so many people hurting and in need of assistance? Is this really the best Utah can ever be?
