Letter: Hope Romney will work for Utah, not the GOP

(Pablo Martinez Monsivais | The Associated Press) In this Nov. 14, 2018, file photo, Sen.-elect Mitt Romney, R-Utah, center, walks the hallway on Capitol Hill in Washington. Romney is a man in-between. He made it to Washington after all _ but not as president of the United States, the office he sought twice and other men won. He’s not yet a senator from Utah, either, until he’s sworn in Jan. 3.

I haven’t ever been a Mitt Romney fan and we will probably not agree on a lot. I hope this new Mitt sticks to what he is saying about honor and respect.

Now Romney has had other good ideas like state health care, but flipped his position when the GOP decided that it was bad because President Barack Obama wanted it.

I hope he will be a senator for the people of Utah and not another yes man for the GOP. He has had some good examples of how to do that.

Our senior senator, Mike Lee, has written books on the Constitution, but doesn't seem to realize that the Senate is supposed to be 100 members voting for the good of the country, not the party.

The senator showed his contempt for the Constitution when he rejected Merrick Garland and anyone Obama put up for federal judges. Lee and former Sen. Orrin Hatch showed how to praise or condemn the same person by whomever nominated them.

Mitt, work for Utah with or without GOP influence. No flipping.
