Letter: Hatch on the wrong side of history

Sen. Orrin Hatch, R-Utah, left, listens to testimony from Christine Blasey Ford as chairman Chuck Grassley, R-Iowa, speaks with staff during the Senate Judiciary Committee hearing on the nomination of Brett M. Kavanaugh, Thursday, Sept. 27, 2018 on Capitol Hill in Washington. (Tom Williams/Pool Image via AP)

Watching the Senate and the Brett Kavanaugh travesty last week, one thing is clear: America is at war with itself.

There is very deep division, and it seems as if it is as clear and distinct as perhaps any time since the Civil War. We are all on one side or the other.

And watching Sen. Orrin Hatch piously lecture us, I couldn’t help but think of his resemblance to Gen. Robert E. Lee.

Erect no statues to this man. He will be on the wrong side of history, too.
