Letter: Rocky Mountain Power needs to do something about frequent outages

(Steve Griffin | Tribune file photo) A Rocky Mountain Power crew works on power lines near 800 South and Foothill Drive in Salt Lake City, Monday, Feb. 25, 2013.

I have lived in Utah for most of my life. I have lived in Sandy for the past five years. I have logged an average of at least seven per outages a year.

It is unbelievable to me that the power grid for Sandy is so unsustainable that it goes out at least seven times a year.

I now have my mother living with me who depends on oxygen at night. Last night was another example of the power going out at 5:43 p.m. and not coming back on until 4 a.m. I wish someone could explain to me why this keeps happening.

I’ve asked Rocky Mountain Power multiple times to explain, and all they tell me is that it’s under investigation. There are no explanations; there’s nothing that they can tell me. Their power grid is ancient and needs to be replaced. Putting a Band-Aid over it is not working! I am sure that the 1,084 residents of Sandy who were without power for almost 12 hours on Sept. 8 feel the same way that I do.

Gena Oliver, Sandy
