Letter: Hypocritical McAdams parties with the interest groups he disparages

(Rick Egan | The Salt Lake Tribune) Salt Lake County Mayor Ben McAdams speaks at a news conference in the warehouse area of the old Camp Kearns Army Air Force Base, as Salt Lake County celebrates the completion of a $1.9 million project to pave roads and increase business opportunities in the area. Thursday, Aug. 30, 2018.

Last week, Salt Lake County Mayor Ben McAdams put out a hypocritical commercial showing himself showering off the “special interest group corruption of Washington, D.C.”

One day later, McAdams boarded a flight to Washington to engage in a high-dollar fundraiser with the same special interest groups he talks about “showering off.”

I don’t know whether to laugh or be angry at the hypocrisy.

But wait, it gets better. McAdams flew to this D.C. fundraiser in the middle of the work week … while taking a $195,000 salary from Salt Lake County taxpayers. Unreal.

The hypocritical commercial digs even deeper. In his ad, he says he wants Congress to pass a budget or not get paid. For McAdams, passing a budget (unbalanced) is easy when he has increased the Salt Lake County budget by 50 percent from $800 million to $1.3 billion annually.

McAdams has built his political career as a puppet for the Clintons and Nancy Pelosi while being funded by “special interest groups in Washington, D.C.”

So, should we trust McAdams’ words in his “slick” commercials or his dirty actions (including not even living in the district he wants to represent)?
