Letter: Trump is not virtuous or praiseworthy

(Evan Vucci | The Associated Press) President Donald Trump speaks during a campaign rally, Wednesday, June 27, 2018, in Fargo, N.D.

The most confounding thing to many of us is how this religious society that is supposed to seek after those things that are "virtuous, lovely, or of good report or praiseworthy” can embrace Donald J. Trump.

What can be the reason they are so willing to accept his vulgarity and constant lying?

Is it because their anticipated portion of his debt-bursting tax break is so huge? Is it because they like polluted air and water, or his denial of science and climate change? Or is it because he so brazenly promotes bigotry and racism?

Hopefully the majority of us, who respected the supposed “family” values of the old Republican Party, will show resistance to their devaluation, the undermining of our legal and media institutions, and the deconstruction of truth itself.
