Letter: Darin Mann is the compelling choice for House District 24

(Photo courtesy of Darin Mann) Darin Mann is a Democratic candidate for state House District 24.

I am writing in response to the article "Crowd of Democrats jockeys for primary win to replace retiring state Rep. Rebecca Chavez-Houck.”

The article covered the Democratic race for House District 24. One of the things that spoke to me was each candidate’s focus on the need for change in how politics in the district are both won and practiced.

For me, the most compelling was Darin Mann’s stance for a higher standard of care for constituents in the district and a raise in the minimum wage. The need for higher wages and more affordable housing is very apparent. I liked his focus on people over profit and his pledge to not accept any donations from corporations. He also mentioned community-owned housing and businesses, which I think will become important in the city as it grows and will keep it from coming under the control of corporations that aren’t even based here.

There should be a concerted effort to make sure that the people already living here aren’t sold out in the interest of economic growth.
