Letter: Poll on NFL anthem ruling is dismaying
(Marcio Jose Sanchez | The Associated Press) In this Monday, Sept. 12, 2016, file photo, San Francisco 49ers safety Eric Reid (35) and quarterback Colin Kaepernick (7) kneel during the national anthem before an NFL football game against the Los Angeles Rams in Santa Clara, Calif. NFL owners have approved a new policy aimed at addressing the firestorm over national anthem protests, permitting players to stay in the locker room during the "The Star-Spangled Banner" but requiring them to stand if they come to the field. The decision was announced Wednesday, May 23, 2018, by NFL Commissioner Roger Goodell during the league's spring meeting in Atlanta.
Because I grew up in Sioux City, Iowa, I read the Sioux City Journal daily, much like I read The Tribune.
Occasionally, The Journal conducts polls. Today’s poll question:
Poll: President Trump thinks NFL players who don’t stand for the national anthem shouldn’t be playing. Do you agree?
As of right now, the results are 61 percent yes and 39 percent no. I am dismayed with my former neighbors. But then again, I am not shocked. They elected Steve King as their representative in the U.S. House. Enough said.
