Letter: So where do you stand on DACA, Mitt Romney?

(Al Hartmann | The Salt Lake Tribune) Republican Senate candidate Mitt Romney speaks and answers questions at an informal breakfast with state delegates Wednesday March 28, 2018 in Salt Lake City.

Thomas Burr reported several of Mitt Romney’s statements and positions on DACA and the Dreamers. As I understand it, he originally opposed legal protection for these people; then that was “water under the bridge” because Obama’s “representations” changed the circumstances (whatever that means) and those commitments should be honored. More recently, Mitt says Dreamers should only gain legal status (but not citizenship) if they meet certain conditions. He has also stated (through a spokesperson) that he disagrees with parts of the GOP platform that the Dreamers be given legal status.

Am I the only one confused here? Where is he on this issue?

Since the anointed candidate Romney has tossed his hat in the ring for Hatch’s Senate seat, maybe he should retrieve it just long enough to attach a “winds-of-political-change” weather vane. This could alert the public to the way those winds are blowing at any particular time and lessen the neck-snapping effects of Mitt’s future flip-flops.
