Over the holidays, I noticed a full-page advertisement in The Tribune from a local gun store. Half the guns listed for sale were assault-style weapons with 30-clip magazines. Also included were a few that I would call sawed-off shotguns. The balance were traditional hunting guns.
Believing that there is no legitimate need for public ownership of assault weapons, I mailed the ad to Sen. Mike Lee asking his position on why this type of weapon was needed in society. To no surprise, I never received a response.
With every mass shooting, the case for banning these guns becomes greater. I think Lee should add this cause to his “laudable pursuits.”
