Letter: Tribune practices tabloid journalism

The Utah House of Representatives is investigating whether a lawmaker who abruptly resigned used a state-issued cellphone and hotel room paid for with taxpayer money to arrange trysts with a prostitute. House Speaker Greg Hughes declined to comment on a Thursday, Feb. 8, 2018, report in British newspaper the Daily Mail that former Republican Rep. Stanard twice hired a prostitute in 2017. The Tribune has in the past, despite its prejudice against The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and its liberal attitude, at least based its articles on real reporting.
The Feb. 9 edition of The Tribune dropped to new lows by including two front-page articles that appear to be based upon reports from the Daily Mail of London tabloid. I have spent many years in London and know that the Daily Mail is not a reputable reporting agency, but is much akin to our own National Enquirer. Both front-page articles, headlined “U.K. paper …” and “Church did not help …,” quote extensively from the Daily Mail tabloid.
Where has responsible journalism gone? No wonder readership is down.
