Utah’s top election official is warning about fake election results — apparently generated by artificial intelligence — that have already been posted online.
“Don’t be fooled!” Lt. Gov. Deidre Henderson wrote in a post on X shortly after 3 p.m. on Election Day. “These are not real!”
(Chris Samuels | The Salt Lake Tribune) Lt. Gov. Deidre Henderson.
Her notice on the social media platform came nearly five hours before polls closed in scores of races for municipal and school board seats across the state.
With it, she posted what appeared to be an image of fake results for Ogden City Council, with the numbers and candidate names blotted out and with the word “FAKE” emblazoned over it in red letters.
No results, Henderson added, have been posted for any race, “nor will they be until after close of polls at 8:00 PM tonight.”
