Political Cornflakes: Ivanka Trump used personal account to send 100s of emails discussing government business

Trump White House has its own email problems. Ben McAdams declares victory (though Love hasn’t conceded). And a state senator doubles down on his assault accusations against a fellow lawmaker.

Happy Tuesday. Will Democrats take up the “Lock her up!” chant? The Washington Post reports that presidential daughter and adviser Ivanka Trump sent hundreds of emails last year to top government officials on her personal email account in violation of federal records rules. A review revealed that she often discussed or relayed official White House business on the account she shares with Jared Kushner, her husband, the newspaper reported. [WaPost]

Topping the news: Democrat Ben McAdams declared victory Monday night after taking a 739-vote lead over Rep. Mia Love with relatively few votes left to count in today’s canvass. Love has not conceded. [Trib][Fox13][DNews][KUTV]

In other news: A group of 21 mayors and council members signed on to briefs supporting lawsuits against President Donald Trump for shrinking Bears Ears and Grand Staircase-Escalante national monuments, alleging that he did not follow due process or gain citizen input before making the economically and environmentally harmful decision. -> Several Utah water districts may be wasting taxpayer dollars in the way they issue long-term, noncompetitive contracts to a bond underwriter. The state auditor’s office issued separate audits Monday to multiple districts, singling out the Central Utah Water Conservancy District as one that has the most issues. [Trib]

-> A Utahn who is a lobbyist, political news publisher and columnist emailed Republican Sen. Jerry Stevenson and offered a campaign contribution from a client at the same time he asked for a five-minute interview for a story. Nationally: Three Democratic senators on the Judiciary Committee asked a federal judge to file an injunction barring President Donald Trump’s nomination of acting Attorney General Matthew G. -> After the CIA revealed Sunday that dissident Saudi journalist Jamal Khashoggi was ordered to be killed by Saudi Arabia’s crown prince, Trump announced that he will wait to review the final report when it is delivered to him Tuesday.
