Ogden • Protesters gathered Saturday in Ogden after a young couple was taken into federal immigration custody following a traffic stop, leaving their 2-month-old child in the care of a relative.
Pablo Oyarce, 25, and Javiera Galvez, 26, were booked into the Weber County Jail on Oct. 22, booking records show. The Weber County Sheriff’s Office pulled them over for a traffic stop and contacted U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement, according to Ogden United, the group organizing Saturday’s protest.
Neither had charges listed in the jail’s booking records as of Saturday morning.
“THIS IS NOT OKAY!” an Ogden United Instagram post reads. “They are being pressured in the jail to self deport and are being threatened to be deported by this Sunday.”
The protest started at 11:30 a.m. Saturday outside the Weber County Building. Organizers are calling for answers from the sheriff’s office about why deputies contacted ICE and what policies or agreements govern the agency’s cooperation with federal immigration agents.
The Sheriff’s Office signed a 287(g) task force model agreement with ICE in July 2025.
The task force model is the most intensive of ICE’s 287(g) agreements. It allows designated local officers to investigate and make immigration arrests as part of their regular police duties, including during traffic stops.
Lt. Sean Endsley said Saturday that a Weber County officer trained under the agreement detained the couple and made the arrest while acting on ICE’s behalf. Endsley said he did not immediately have further information about what prompted the traffic stop or the couple’s immigration status.
Protestors are also calling for an emergency stay of removal while the couple’s immigration case is pending and for Galvez to be released so she can care for their child.
This is a developing story. Check back for updates.
