Flock Safety’s license-plate-reading cameras are becoming more common along the Wasatch Front, and they’re sparking a genuinely bipartisan fight over privacy.
A Weber County sheriff’s office public records request found the county’s 10 cameras have been searched more than 5 million times since early 2022, mostly by out-of-state agencies.
And just last week, Millcreek officials discovered an unauthorized Flock camera on city property — they say they never approved it and don’t know who installed it.
Supporters say the cameras solve crimes fast. Critics say they’re an unregulated surveillance dragnet. Where do you land?
