Utah drivers, beware: nearly $3 billion in road construction projects will snarl traffic across the state this year.

As the weather warms up, the Utah Department of Transportation is starting work on 233 projects in the Beehive State, according to a news release from the agency. Several major projects will be concentrated along the Wasatch Front — here is where, and when they will be done:

Salt Lake County

Upgrades to Interstate 215 West near Salt Lake City International Airport.

• Construction started last year on this project, which will renovate I-215 West from State Route 201 to North Temple.

• The project will renovate 30 bridges and reconstruct 14 miles of ramps where Interstate 80 and California Avenue intersect with I-215.

• This spring and summer, drivers can expect ramp closures at every ramp within the I-80 and I-215 interchange. Not all ramps will close at once, but some closures will overlap.

• Construction will continue through summer 2027.

Interstate 80 improvements.

• Major upgrades are coming to I-80 in Parleys Canyon and Jeremy Ranch.

• Two whole new bridges will be built in Jeremy Ranch. Those replacement projects will force two full weekend-long closures of I-80 at some point.

• Seven bridge decks will see work from Foothill Drive up to Mountain Dell Reservoir.

• New pavement will be laid in two places: from Mountain Dell to Lambs Canyon and from 2300 East to the mouth of Parleys Canyon.

• Drivers should expect construction to end late in 2027.

S-Line extension.

• Salt Lake City’s S-Line streetcar will be extended east across Highland Drive to the Sugar House Shopping Center.

• The project will add a new station at the end of the line, called Highland, and another track between 500 East and 700 East.

• UDOT said construction will end in 2027.

I-15 pavement repairs from 10600 South to 9000 South.

• Crews are set to repave I-15 from 10600 South north to 9000 South.

• Drivers can expect nightly lane closures this construction season.

• The project is set to wrap up by the end of the year.

Utah County

U.S. Route 6 improvements at Spanish Fork Canyon.

• UDOT crews have already begun widening U.S. Route 6 near the entrance of Spanish Fork Canyon from two to five lanes. Drivers can expect several segments of the road reduced to one-way alternating traffic during daytime hours.

• Workers will also build an underpass at the intersection of Route 6 and U.S. Route 89 at Thistle Junction.

• Work on Route 89 will begin later this spring, but both projects are expected to wrap up in 2027.

2100 North.

• The most expensive project starting construction this year — $621 million, to be exact — is a 2.8-mile road connecting Mountain View Corridor and I-15.

• UDOT plans to replace the existing 2100 North with a six-lane freeway that, the agency says, will save commuters 12 minutes during peak times, initially.

• It will include 16 new bridges and more than two miles of multiuse paths.

• Construction has started and officials say the work will finish by the end of 2028.

Davis County

Legacy Parkway expansion.

• Construction is underway on this project to add one new lane in each direction to the north-south highway connecting Davis and Salt Lake counties.

• Environmental groups and neighbors have criticized the expansion as unnecessary and dangerous.

• UDOT officials have said the new lanes are needed to meet future demand and speed up looming Interstate 15 construction.

• During road work, which is set to happen on weekdays, drivers can expect delays, lane closures and traffic shifts.

• UDOT expects to finish the project by the end of the year.

1800 North and I-15 intersection north of Clearfield.

• Construction is already underway as crews work to build a new interchange at the intersection of 1800 North and I-15. The highway will move onto its new alignment in May.

• Once construction is complete, 1800 North will have five lanes from 250 West to 2000 West. There will also be an overpass at 500 West to cross a railroad in the area.

• Drivers can expect occasional lane closures on the interstate and frequent side street closures.

• The construction will create space for an additional entrance gate at Hill Air Force Base.

• UDOT expects the project will be completed in late 2027.

West Davis Highway extension.

• The first part of a possible longer extension, this project will extend the road due north 2.5 miles to 1800 North in West Point.

• UDOT also plans to extend a multiuse path, called Emigrant Trail, nearby up to the Weber County line.

• Construction won’t end until the middle of 2029, the longest project due to start this year.

Wasatch County

Widening of U.S. Route 189 in Provo Canyon.

• Construction will continue this year to widen US-189 in Provo Canyon to two lanes in each direction.

• Crews are currently excavating the steep hillside for the future northbound lanes. Later this year, traffic will move to the new northbound lanes while crews work to reconstruct the southbound side. Workers will also install a new traffic signal at the intersection between US-89 and State Route 113.

• UDOT expects the project will wrap up in late 2027.

Weber County

New interchange at 5600 South in Roy and Riverdale.

• Construction on this project began in 2023, and once completed, drivers will have a new interchange at I-15 and 5600 South.

• On top of two additional lanes along 5600 South between I-15 and 3500 West, the project will add new sidewalks, pedestrian ramps, and trail system access to the roadway.

• As construction continues, drivers can expect occasional lane and ramp closures on I-15 at 5600 South.

• Construction is expected to wrap up this fall.
