Skating rinks, bike shops, new restaurants: What’s coming to southern Utah this winter

Update on 20 projects in St. George, Hurricane and Washington, from clothing shops to government buildings.

(Macrae Heppler) Macrae Heppler gives monthly updates on new businesses and construction projects happening in Washington County called ‘What’s Happening in Southern Utah.’

The Southern Utah Tribune has partnered with Macrae Heppler, who publishes a newsletter and video series called “What’s Happening in Southern Utah.” Stay up to date with all the new business and commercial development through his videos along with his monthly newsletter. Here’s a list below of what’s happening in December:

St. George area:

  • Aimar’s Mexican Restaurant Now open at 20 N. Main St. #108. For more info check out their Facebook page.
  • Back 9 Golf Another new indoor golf simulator opening soon on Sunset Boulevard. For more info check out thebackninegolf.com/stgeorgeut.
  • Biscuit Bus — One of the most popular food trucks in town is getting their own brick and mortar location. They are taking over at 974 W. Sunset Blvd and the plan is to be open in February. For more info check out thebiscuitbus.com.
  • Canyon Pizza Co — Now open at 2523 S. River Road in Nichol’s Landing. For more info check out canyonpizzaco.com/st—george.
  • City Hall & Parking Structure — Now finished and the city has been moving in at 61 S. Main St. across from Town Square. The parking garage is right next to it and features about 300 stalls including some EV, and is open to the public 24/7.
  • New fire station HQ — Now open on the corner of 400 East and 100 South and is the new official fire HQ for St. George City. Great addition to downtown as it is double the size of the other one and much easier to access.
  • The Post — This is a shared office space concept located at 50 W. Tabernacle right next to Capaletti’s. So far Mint Construction, Summit Events, and Soltis Financial Advisors occupy three of the four spaces. For more info check out thepostdowntown.com.
  • Sandtown Inn — New boutique hotel in the works on the corner of 200 West and 100 North.
  • Acton Academy St. George — The private school acquired the site next door and is building 6,000 square feet of additional space as it continues to expand. Plan is to be open by 2026. For more info check out actonstgeorge.com.
  • Innovative Concrete — Just had their ground breaking and officially underway on their new HQ in the Aviation Business Park across from the airport. For more info check out innovativeconcretellc.com.
  • Classic Skating — The rinq has new ownership and is now Classic Skating! This company has been around since 1978 in northern Utah and is expanding down here. For more info check out skatetherinq.com.
  • Las Palmas Mexican Food — Another new location in the works, this time going in where Maharaja Indian was at 815 E. St. George Blvd. Plan is to be open sometime in the next month or two. For more info check out laspalmasutah.com.

  • Nate’s Bike Shop — Now open at 344 Sunland Drive, Ste 3. Has over 25 years of experience servicing mountain, road, gravel, BMX and E-bikes. For more info check out natesbikeshop.com.
  • Mountain America Credit Union — New branch opening Dec. 15 at the intersection entering Desert Color. For more info check out macu.com.
  • Washington area:

  • Burlington Just announced it will be replacing Joann Fabrics at 720 W. Telegraph St. For more info check out burlington.com.

  • Crooked Saguaro — New salon opening Dec. 6 at 767 E. Hayfield Drive in The Junction on Washington Fields Road. For more info check out their Instagram page.

  • Starbucks — Now open at 765 W. State St. next to Del Taco.
  • A Touch of Tuscany: An Italian Steakhouse — Just announced it will be going in at the Ropes of Southern Utah complex. Plan is to open in March.
