Salt Lake City is getting its own Monopoly game — and you can help choose the landmarks

From now through December, Utahns can submit location options for the 22 different Monopoly properties.

The landmarks of Salt Lake City soon will be featured in a version of Monopoly.

The “Salt Lake City Edition” of the classic board game will be released in summer 2026 — a “tribute to everything that makes Salt Lake City a truly special place to live, work and explore,” officials for Top Trumps USA announced at a news conference Wednesday in Pioneer Park. Top Trumps USA creates city-specific versions of the real-estate trading game, under license through Hasbro.

During the news conference, a person dressed as Mr. Monopoly, the game’s beloved mascot, danced on the corner of 300 South and 300 West, waving to people passing by.

In this rendition of the game, the traditional Atlantic City-inspired property squares — such as Boardwalk and Park Place — will be replaced by local landmarks, neighborhoods, attractions and historic sites. Some of the 22 property squares will be reserved for local businesses.

The only board spaces that will remain unchanged are the four corners: Go, Free Parking, Jail and Go to Jail, said Aaron Green, a representative with Top Trumps USA.

“You might see a famous basketball team, Capitol building, universities, museums, restaurants, your favorite dive bars, ice cream shops, yogurt shops — all the things that you remember as a kid that you love going to are going to be memorialized on Monopoly: Salt Lake City Edition,” Green said.

The Chance and Community Chest decks, which can move players around the board and provide cash rewards or levy fines, also will be customized “ensuring every detail of the game pays homage to the region,” according to a Top Trumps USA news release.

Green said Salt Lakers are encouraged to submit phrases or “those little tidbits about the city to make it really unique that only you guys will know,” for possible inclusion on the game’s Chance or Community Chest cards.

Through Dec. 26, people can share which spots they would like to see featured on the board by emailing saltlakecity@toptrumps.com.

Green and a small team will review the suggestions and determine which sites will appear on the final game board. Once the list is narrowed down, they will begin reaching out to business owners and property managers to secure participation and negotiate inclusion in the game.

The first Utah rendition of the game — based off the state’s popular mountain ski town, Park City — was released to retailers in early 2024, and featured such iconic spots as the No Name Saloon, Java Cow and Guardsman Pass.

The Top Trumps website sells editions for Monopoly for 44 U.S. locations, from Portland, Maine, to Palm Springs, California. Monopoly has been enjoyed by more than a billion players in 114 countries, according to the company.

The iconic board game’s long-standing success can be attributed to nostalgia, Green said.

“It brings us back to being a kid, and I think we feel that comfort, especially when the world gets a little crazy sometimes,” he said.

When the game is ready, Top Trumps USA plans to host a public launch party at one of the featured local businesses or destinations.

The game will be sold primarily through Salt Lake City retailers rather than big-box chains, Green said, ensuring that area businesses benefit from its sales.

Green said every aspect of the edition will be thoughtfully crafted so the game is “so Salt Lake it will be unmistakable.”
