(Utah Highway Patrol) A 6-year-old Utah girl was killed when the pickup truck she was riding in collided with a semitruck on Sunday, April 7, 2023.

A Utah girl was killed when the pickup truck she was riding in collided head-on with a semitruck early Sunday in what authorities called a possible drowsy-driving crash.

According to the Utah Highway Patrol, the pickup was headed west on U.S. 6 midway between Spanish Fork and Helper at about 5 a.m. Sunday when it drifted into the eastbound lane and crashed into the semitruck.

The girl was in a booster seat in the back seat of the pickup’s passenger side when the vehicles collided. Her father was driving, according to UHP.

The child died at the scene, UHP said. Her name was not immediately released.

Based on preliminary details, investigators believe the child’s father may have dozed off before drifting into the path of the semitruck.

Both the driver of the pickup and the driver of the semi were taken to a hospital with survivable injuries.
