I-15 reopened hours after fatal wrong-way crash with ROTC cadet transport bus

The male adult driver of the pickup truck died of his injuries.

(Fox 13 News) A wrong-way driver struck a bus around 6:30 a.m. Thursday on I-15 in Salt Lake City.

A crash involving a bus full of ROTC Cadets and a wrong-way driver on Interstate 15 in Salt Lake City Thursday morning is expected to cause major traffic issues for hours.

I-15 was completely closed shortly after the crash happened at 6:30 a.m. and remained shut down until 10:30 a.m. Roughly four hours after the crash happened, the freeway was partially reopened.

Traffic congestion continued even after the freeway was reopened as side streets and alternate routes saw major backups through the morning commute.

The wrong-way crash happened in the southbound lanes of I-15 at 600 North just before 6:30 a.m.

Utah Highway Patrol reported a pickup truck driving northbound in the southbound lanes hit a military transport bus.

The male adult driver of the pickup truck was initially reported to be in critical condition, however, officials later said he died of his injuries.
