17-year-old Utah girl struck, killed while riding bike

The fatal crash remains under investigation.

A 17-year-old Utah girl was killed by a garbage truck while riding her bicycle early Tuesday.

According to Tremonton Garland police, the teenager — whose name has not been released — was riding her bike on a sidewalk near 1500 W. Main Street in Tremonton at about 6 a.m. when the truck, which was exiting a business parking lot, struck her. The girl died at the scene.

The truck driver remained at the scene and is cooperating with the investigation, according to police.

According to the Box Elder School District, grief counselors were at Bear River High School, which the girl attended, on Wednesday.
