FanX lands one of its most-requested celebrities for a Utah visit

One of the stars of the long-running ‘Supernatural’ is scheduled to appear at Salt Lake City’s comic convention.

One of the stars of the fan favorite series “Supernatural” has signed on for the FanX Salt Lake Comic Convention.

Jared Padalecki — who played Sam Winchester, who teamed with Jensen Ackles’ Dean Winchester to hunt evil monsters, demons and fallen angels for 15 seasons on the CW series “Supernatural” — has committed to make an appearance at FanX during its run, Sept. 21-23, at the Salt Palace Convention Center in Salt Lake City, convention organizers announced Wednesday.

Organizers said Padalecki has been one of the celebrities most requested by convention attendees to come to FanX. Details of Padelecki’s appearance have yet to be announced, though a panel in the Salt Palace’s Grand Ballroom is all but guaranteed.

“We know our fans love Jared because they’ve been so consistent in telling us, and he’s been one of our most-requested guests for years,” Dan Farr, founder and show producer of FanX, said in a statement. “Our fans are going to go crazy with the chance to meet Jared.”

After appearing in 327 episodes of “Supernatural,” Padalecki signed on for another TV series, starring as lawman Cordell Walker on “Walker,” a reboot of the long-running Chuck Norris series “Walker, Texas Ranger.” The CW series is scheduled to return for a shortened 13-episode fourth season this fall, according to the Hollywood Reporter. (The CW canceled prequels to both series, “The Winchesters” and “Walker: Independence,” last month.)

Padalecki’s movie credits include the 2004 adventure drama “Flight of the Phoenix,” the 2005 remake of the horror movie “House of Wax,” and the 2009 remake of the slasher movie “Friday the 13th.” Before “Supernatural,” he had a recurring role on the comedy-drama “Gilmore Girls,” as an on-again, off-again boyfriend of Alexis Bledel’s character, Rory.

Padalecki is among more than 60 actors who have been announced as attending FanX, which is marking its 10th year. Other notable names already announced include: Michael J. Fox and his “Back to the Future” co-stars Christopher Lloyd, Lea Thompson and Thomas F. Wilson; “Scream” franchise stars Neve Campbell, Skeet Ulrich and Matthew Lillard; “Shazam” stars Zachary Levi, Asher Angel and Jack David Grazer; “Clueless” co-stars Alicia Silverstone and Stacey Dash; “Smallville” stars Tom Welling, Kristen Kreuk and Michael Rosenbaum; and animation legend Don Bluth. More are expected to be added between now and September.

FanX also is scheduled to include panel discussions, cosplay meet-ups, and row upon row of vendors catering to fans of science fiction, fantasy, horror and other cultural genres.
