A toddler who wandered off from a field at a school in Spanish Fork apparently drowned in a nearby canal on Friday morning.
The body of 2-year-old Emit Burrell was found in an irrigation canal about a quarter of a mile away from where he was last seen, according to a news release from Spanish Fork police.
The boy was last seen on the football field at the American Leadership Academy at 898 W. 1100 South, where his father “assists with coaching,” according to a news release from Spanish Fork police. At 8:42 a.m., officers were called to the school when the child could not be found.
Shortly after 10 a.m., his body was found in the canal, which is several feet deep, police said. First responders could not revive the boy.
