(Dan Harrie | The Salt Lake Tribune) Emergency crews respond to a car crash near 5095 South 3200 W. in Taylorsville, Tuesday, July 28, 2020. At right is a baby stroller that was carrying twin 2-year-old girls and was being pushed down the sidewalk by the mother when the car seen here was rear-ended and pushed into the pedestrians.

A 2-year-old girl died Tuesday when a traffic crash caused a car to jump a curb and hit a stroller in Taylorsville.

The girl’s mother and twin sister were taken to hospitals in critical condition, said Unified Police Sgt. Melody Gray. The crash happened on 3200 West near 5000 South.

About 2:45 p.m., a driver braked to avoid hitting a dog, Gray said. A vehicle behind that car hit it, Gray said, propelling the car onto the sidewalk, where a mother was pushing her twin children in a stroller.

Approximate location of crash.

One of the children was pronounced dead at the scene.

Police closed 3200 West in the area for hours as officers documented what happened. Gray said no citations were issued Tuesday afternoon.

The family’s name was not immediately released.
