(Salt Lake City Police) A Salt Lake City Police squad car, parked at a crime scene on Nov. 8, 2021. One person has died after a shooting outside the Salt Palace Convention Center Saturday afternoon, police said.

One person has died after a shooting Saturday afternoon near the Salt Palace Convention Center, authorities said.

The shooting occurred outside of the convention center around 3:15 p.m. near 150 S. West Temple, said Salt Lake City Police Department spokesperson Brent Weisberg. Officers found an individual on the ground with critical injuries, and provided medical aid before the person was taken to the hospital by ambulance.

The person later died at the hospital, Weisberg said. Authorities did not release any information on the victim’s identity.

Investigators believe that the shooting involved an altercation between multiple people who had just left a shoe convention — Sneaker Con Salt Lake City — at the Salt Palace. The suspects left immediately after, likely in a car based on witness accounts, Weisberg said.

The investigation remains ongoing as authorities review area CCTV footage. Police said there is no active threat to the community, although the suspects are still at large.

Authorities asked anyone with further information on the shooting to contact SLCPD at 801-799-3000.
